Jacob was relentless during this struggle and his perseverance changed him profoundly, forever, in several ways: he was wounded and walked with a limp for the rest of his life, a sign of human weakness and dependance on the Lord; he was given a new name (“Israel”) and with it a new identity, as a prince with God, and one whose struggle with the Almighty saved his life, his family, and his God given inheritance and posterity; and finally, Jacob received the long-awaited relief and closure with the brother whom he had deceived and enraged so many years before.
So this wrestling match with God was a massive turning point in Jacob’s life, and though it must have taken every ounce of human effort he could muster, the victory he won affected every human being in history, since, of course, the Man that Jacob wrestled with was almost certainly the same Man who became his most important descendant, the Savior of the world, Yeshua, the Messiah; (Jesus the Christ).
How often difficulties and crises are used by the Lord to bring us closer and to develop intimacy with Him. It is sometimes the Lord’s will to draw us to Himself through extreme and even terrible circumstances or threats. The inner transformation that can take place when we pass through these intense prayer battles, cannot perhaps, be accomplished any other way. But consider the fruit and the blessing which can result from these mighty wrestlings. And consider how being that close to God Himself may change you forever. So, you who are gutting out that anguishing trial–don’t let go until you receive the blessing, the change, the victory. I believe the Lord also wants to say to you— that you have struggled with God and with men — and have prevailed!
Genesis 32:24-30 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.” And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
Hey brother :) I was wondering if you know what your ministry is going to be, and if you don't, what would you like it to be? Btw, I read your testimony and it was very inspiring! I know that it'll impact many lives as I'm sure it already has. It's like Joyce Meyer said, "God can turn your mess into your message." God Bless You :) One more thing, You write really well! (That's the writer in me talking haha).
Thank you very much! To answer your question, and not to sound like too much of a commercial Christian, my ministry is going to be whatever God decides to give me.
I am currently a biblical and theological major, and I am just studying as of know to learn more about this God I serve. I am not sure as to where that will take me, or what he has in store for me right down to the crossing of a t and dotting of an I, but I have faith that all the more I seek him, all the more he will reveal it to me!
How do you feel about "gender roles", like a womans place is in the kitchen etc
I believe that wherever God places a woman, that is where she belongs. Do I believe a woman stays in the kitchen? Well if that is the case, I guess I’m not allowed to cook anymore haha
I believe the man is the head of the household and the spiritual leader of the house. I believe that is biblical. As far as the woman, if God has called her to do something, who am I to stand opposed to God’s plan for her life?
I just wanted to say thank you. I just finished reading your testimony and it made me cry, the good kind. It made me feel that same feeling I had when God first touched my own broken, messed-up heart. Thank you for sharing, it truly did give me hope. Stay strong and stay beautiful, because you are such a great blessing <3
Thank you; and Your welcome! Haha praise God for him transforming your heart as well!! Be Blessed Friend!
You may know this in your head, but question it in your heart. What I want you to do is say this aloud, speak this over yourself:
I AM a new creation. My identity lies in Christ.
I hope this encourages you and reminds you that you are no longer a resident of this world and are no longer a slave to it. May this also be a reminder of who you belong to, of the one who has got your back. Say it to yourself, you may need to hear it out loud. Proclaim it! Claim it! It’s YOURS!
Decorations, while beautiful, are temporary. Sooner or later the tinsel, the trinkets, and the lights will come down to be stored away until next year. Sometimes the spirit that came with them is packed away until next year as well. That spirit of helping the poor, giving freely and love for all, somehow, gets packed away with the Christmas decorations.
Our decorations may be a true reflection of our culture. We are fast becoming a nation that pays more attention to the outside than the inside. By contrast, God’s exteriors always point in a substantive way to an interior reality. When God puts something on the outside it has a connection with what’s going on inside. It is not superficial.
There is great emphasis on exterior decoration during this season. Yet, we must always remember that the decorations that impress God the most are our interior decorations. God is not impressed with the beautiful exteriors if there is a dark spirit of divorce, anger, distrust, hatred, and vengeance that exists inside. The exterior has the right look, but the interior should have a connection to the exterior.
As Christians, we are always mindful of the true spirit of Christmas, which is reflected on the outside but begins on the inside. There is great joy on our faces because there is joy in our heart. That joy is because daily we celebrate the presence of the Lord and the peace he brings.
Today, as you see the lights and decorations, resolve to let the world see your light shining today. It will be a great witness to the majesty of the Lord.
If you do not know how much you are worth, I suggest you actually try to figure it out soon. When you don’t know your worth, you will fall for the sweet talk, the consistent meaningless apologies, the immature attitudes, and if it gets far enough, you may even come to accept the verbal abuse and/or physical abuse because you have settled and do not know your worth.
You talk to this guy who seems so “down to earth” and “he understands me” but watch for the red flags. If he does not constantly remind you of your worth, move on.
What are you worth? John 3:16. You are worth DYING FOR. Someone DIED for you, and not so you can settle for someone who is going to disrespect you, cheat of you, abuse you. He should remind you that you are a child of God and not just an accessory that he can add on his life to make it more pleasurable for him. Know you are a queen, and you do not have to settle. You deserve more! #ugh
Beauty can be seen on the outside but it is NOT the foundation of what true beauty is all about. If beauty was SOLELY based on outer appearance, marriages will end as soon as the spouse(s) gets old. Think about it. Truth is, one day your gonna get wrinkly, weak, grumpy and maybe smelly, so all of…
She was so attractive. I was drawn in from the very beginning, all that was about her, I desired. She had all the features that I “needed”, and in my eyes, she held the secret to happiness. I loved her. I wanted to be with her forever. I gave her my all, gave her my heart. Her appearance was captivating, alluring if you will. To me, I saw no flaws, no faults, she was my ideal.
Who is this girl? Her name is the World.
On the outside, she seemed so beautiful, so perfect. But underneath, she would suck you in with lies and her deceptive ways that promised you love, success, happiness. I gave the World my all but ended up with less then I put in. I loved her. I loved her until i was shown something genuine. A Love who would love me back, who was not deceiving and who would not lie and manipulate. This is a love that would die for me.
Who’s does this love come from? My God.
Don’t love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in them. (1 John 2:15 )
“It’s great when you think about all the different things that could make you happy then realize that God is the only one of those that can lastingly satisfy. It makes life a lot easier because you always know who to go to FIRST in any circumstance.”—Sonia Rivera Sanchez
a farmer found a young eagle who had apparently fallen out of his nest. He took it home and put it in his barnyard with his chickens and there it stayed for years. It wasn’t long before the little eagle learned to eat and behave like the chickens.
One day a naturalist passed by the farm and saw the eagle confined in the barnyard with the chickens. When he inquired about this strange sight, the farmer told the man his story. “Unfortunately,” said the farmer, “the poor little guy just never learned to fly.” “Still,” the naturalist sighed, “he has the heart of an eagle and can surely be taught. Will you allow me to work with him?” The farmer agreed, but with much disbelief.
The naturalist picked up the eagle and lifted him toward the sky and said, “You belong to the sky and not to the earth. Stretch forth your wings and fly.” The eagle, however, was confused. He did not know who he was, and seeing the chickens eating their food, he jumped down to be with them again. The naturalist took the bird to the roof of the house and urged him again, saying, “You are an eagle. Stretch forth your wings and fly.” But the eagle was afraid and jumped down once again to be with his chicken friends. Finally the naturalist took the eagle out of the barnyard to a high mountain. There he held the king of the birds high above him and encouraged him again, saying, “You are an eagle. You belong to the sky. Stretch forth your wings and fly!” The eagle looked around, back towards the barnyard and then up to the sky. Slowly, he stretched his wings, and with a triumphant cry, he soared away into the heavens.
Somewhere along the line, we like this poor young eagle, were put in a lowly barn with the chickens of the world around us. We learned to live and eat from the ground and grew up believing that there was not much more to do than sit and cluck all day.
But the reality is that we are eagles! We were created to fly and even soar! God has great purpose for our lives! If we would only realize who we are in Him!
Let’s remember who we are today and stop acting like chickens! We are the head and not the tail! We are Kings and Priests! We have great things to do for the Kingdom!
One day a passerby saw a homeless man on the roadside. He stopped for a moment to hand him some loose change and casually said “God bless you, my friend”. "I thank God," said the homeless man, "I am never unhappy." "What do you mean?" the passerby asked. "Well," he said, "when the sun is out, I thank God — when it rains, I thank God. When I am full, I thank God and when I am hungry, I thank God. And, since God’s will is my will, and whatever pleases Him pleases me, why should I say I am unhappy when I am not?" The man looked at him in astonishment and asked, “Who are you?” "I am a King," said he. "Where, then, is your Kingdom?" asked the man. "In my heart." The homeless man replied.
Yes, we can have nothing, yet have it all. So often, we focus on what we have and forget who we are! The two are not related at all — what we have (or don’t have) has nothing to do with who we are! The Word says that we are kings and priests and so it is!
Let’s give all our concerns to the Lord and see ourselves as He does — Kings and Priests! Thank God in every circumstance and there, we will find our victory.
Revelation 1:5-6 To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
One great truth of life is that we never really know people until we catch them without their masks; without their game face, without their public personality. We really get to know them when we know them without the mask.
Sometimes we don’t like the man or woman behind the mask. Sometimes it frustrates us and makes us angry. The beauty of our relationship with God is that he loves the man or woman behind the mask. He knows our inner spirit. Despite what he knows about us, he has chosen to love us anyway. Despite what he sees when our masks come off, he still loves us.
As Christians, we have come to love God more than ever. We love him because he looks beyond our faulty masks, disguises and false faces and sees someone worthy of loving. No wonder the song writer wrote, “Oh How I love Jesus, because he first loved me.”
Today, remember God sees the real you; be yourself!!!! :)
General Question: What good does it do you if you like or reblog one of those “Reblog if you love God” posts? God is not going to say when you meet him face to face, “Well you DID reblog a post that says you love me, so i guess i believe you.”
Obey God if you love him. Run to him if you love him. Sit at his feet if you love him. Let nothing take his place if you love him. Let HIS will be done if you love him.
ONCE AGAIN: This is not a shot at anybody who reblogged that or who chooses to, but just be reminded, it takes much more than a reblog to show God you love him.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord And whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit” Jeremiah 17:7-8
This tree KNOWS that it is planted and firmly grounded by rivers of living water, BELIEVES that it’s roots reach out by the streams, has FAITH that it will not fear or be anxious throughout the different seasons. And as a result, its leaves remain green and does not cease to yield fruit.
Do YOU KNOW who you are in Christ, that you are firmly grounded in Him? Believe that your roots stretch out by His rivers of living water that of which you can drink from and never go thirsty again? Do you have FAITH that despite of what life throws at you, you will not fear, be shaken and destroyed? I’m not saying that you will never be shaken if you are grounded in Christ bc the enemy is here to steal, kill and destroy. He will want to do more than just shake you. But what I’m trying to get at is, when you are being shaken, r u placing your trust in Him and have FAITH that by placing your trust in the Lord in times of struggle, pain and different seasons, at the end He will work things out together for your good? Your leaves will be green and You will not cease to yield fruit! Trust Him!
Hey friends, i was just looking through my dashboard, and noticed that some of you seemed to be going through a rough, wilderness time in your life right now. Some may be depressed, discouraged, or just simply feeling down, and i wanted to try and encourage you!
First, know that the enemy is subtle and the temptations of the flesh can so quickly quench the presence and power of God’s spirit so quick that you may not even realize it has happened. But this anointing of the Holy Spirit is your Life….and your victory. Opposition can be destroyed and burdens can be lifted when His wonderful Presence fills and rests upon you. Your greatest battle is maintaining that internal communion with Him by His Spirit. Temptations, bad habits, our sinful nature, demonic attacks, all these collaborate to rob you of this holy anointing, your communion with God, and your only real power over every enemy!
I thought about someone in the Bible who experienced this. Samson. He was a powerful example of a man of God who won his battles over and over again because the Spirit of the Lord came upon him. Yet when he was finally defeated by Delilah’s temptations he didn’t realize that the Lord had left him, so effective was the woman’s spell.
Samson’s victories clearly demonstrate the tremendous power of the anointing. His power over the Philistines was legendary!! But when he lost his anointing, they nearly destroyed him. How critical it is in these days to keep our lamps burning with the holy “oil” of Jesus’ anointing. His goodness will defeat the evils around us…His light will banish darkness…His joy will annihilate our depression…His forgiveness will root out all bitterness…His love will overcome our natural hatred…and every subtle deception will be exposed by His excellent TRUTH! Seek HIS ANOINTING!!! PLEASE, in this time of discouragement, seek that anointing - the fullness of the Holy Spirit — He will equip you to break every yoke of bondage and defeat every internal and external enemy.
And, please don’t find yourself in the condition of Samson, not even realizing that the anointing had left him. The cost was enormous, even though he was restored. Instead, guard yourself against the subtle temptations of this world seeking more and more of His indwelling Presence. Know that choosing to remain discouraged and depressed is exactly what the enemy wants! SEEK GOD’S ANOINTING OVER YOUR LIFE!! That anointing will produce one victory after another.
That is my prayer for you all! Rise up, brush off the dirt, let him heal your wounds, and persevere!
Psalm 107:4-6 Some wandered in the wilderness lost and homeless. Hungry and thirsty, they nearly died. “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress.
Hii I absolutely lovee your testimony & your youtube devotional videos, they have helped me soooooooo much!!! Thanks for that:) I think you should post some more. lol
Haha I have been slacking with the devotional videos HEAVY! I Will most likely start up again and start posting them up on my blog soon! I should have time this winter break while I am home from college. I’ll try! Thank you for watching! God bless you!
Just read your testimony and it got me all teared up. I read God's unconditional love in your testimony. He is truly amazing and I just want to thank you for sharing. May you continue in being a blessing and may God continue in pouring out His love in you, so His overflowing love may touch the life of others, as you're doing with this blog. GBU!
Wow amen I am glad God used my story to touch you! I pray that it empowers you to seek that unconditional love all the more! God Bless you :)
I don’t talk too much on relationships on this blog, but we are a people made for relationship and community so I figured I would share a bit. I know some of you may need to hear this!
Basically, If you could have the perfect mate, what qualities would you like for your mate to have?
Should he be taller? Should she be finer?
Some, if given the option, would forego the looks if they could find someone with a little money. There are some who have a fix on intelligence. There are others who want the whole ball of wax; they want looks, money and brains all in the same package.
It seems everyone is looking for Mr. Wonderful and Ms. Perfect Delight. Some have found what they have been looking for. Others always seem to be one day too late. Life’s cycle involves a complete circle of emotional events that span the entire scope of our lives. We spend one third of our lives looking for love, another third trying to hold on to love and a final third remembering love. Somewhere in between there’s a group that can’t find love at all. They are the group that is “looking for love in all the wrong places.” On tumblr, it would be the “forever alone” guy.
What qualities do we look for in the perfect mate? Is there a check list that’s fool proof? Is there a guidebook we can purchase to insure that we now have, “Mr. Wonderful?” Can we really use this magic checklist to be sure that we have the right one or to measure the quality of what we have? Is there any such creature as Mr. Perfect?
Many years ago a group called The Chilites wrote a song that asked, “Have you seen her?” It described a man who constantly looked for his love. There are many today who could sing that song, “Have you seen her? or Have you seen him?”
Many men today who are looking for Ms. Perfect externally. Because they were not spiritually adjusted themselves they were not able to see her when she sat right next to them. Some women have already met Mr. Wonderful, but they could not see him for looking for him.
As believers, we praise God for giving us a loving spirit that helps us to understand the meaning of true love, which is only in and through Christ Jesus. Because he allows us to see ourselves through his eyes we are better able to identify and appreciate the traits of our mates.
Across America, the Church has become relaxed in the faith. Out of fear, ignorance, or negligence we have allowed the standards of God to be reduced to mockery.
As ambassadors for Christ it is our responsibility to protect the faith against impurities. We are charged with that function but yet we have failed miserably in this respect on so many occasions. Our failure has prompted the world to laugh at us.
Somehow an attitude has developed among us that says we can do anything and still get to heaven “anyhow.”
We are challenged to live for Jesus daily, and to keep our commitment to him all the days of our lives. In return for our spiritual fidelity, Christ promises us eternal life.
This is our hope, this is our faith. Hold onto it!
"The joy of the Lord is your Strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10) Now if what brings God joy is our obedience, and we are being disobedient, sitting comfortable in our sin, hold on to an unrepentant heart, and altogether choosing not to show God we love him by choosing his will over our own, where do we expect to find any lasting strength? If the joy of the Lord is supposed to be our strength, and we are feeling weak, we may need to evaluate or walk with Christ and figure out if we lack a sense of strength due to any blatant disobedience against God.
You may be wounded right now from an earlier fall. You may feel like there’s just no way you can make it to the end. But God didn’t send you this far only to start the race — He got you here to finish it! Now, get up! Brush off the dirt! And keep going! He will give you the strength! There’s soooooooooooooooo much work to be done!!! LETS GOOOOO!!!
